JON Daly last night warned Europa League rivals Dynamo Moscow they’ll get “stung” for writing off Dundee United.

The mega-money Muscovites haven’t done a single spying mission on the Arabs ahead of Thursday’s third-round first leg at Tannadice.

In contrast, United coach Paul Hegarty flew out to watch Dynamo lose 2-0 to rivals Zenit St Petersburg at the weekend.

Tannadice skipper Daly is preparing to lead his side into the European arena for the third straight season and insists Dynamo could pay a heavy price for not doing their homework on Peter Houston’s men.

Daly said: “Hopefully that’s the case. You can’t take anyone lightly in football regardless of what level you’re playing at.

“If you do that then you’re always liable to get stung.

“If that’s the way they’re going to approach the game then that will suit us down to the ground.

“We’ll catch them by surprise if that’s so.

“We have a good squad of players here who are confident we can handle the Russians.”

United are relishing the underdog tag having come agonisingly close to progressing in the past couple of seasons against Greek aces AEK Athens and Polish cracks Slask Wroclaw.

And captain Daly, who led his side to a 3-1 win away to Gateshead on Friday night, reckons they’re under slightly less pressure this time round as they get ready to go head to head with their big-spending Eastern European opponents.

Daly said: “It’s full steam ahead now and it’s a big game for the club on Thursday.

“Hopefully we can get the result we’re after. It kind of takes the pressure off being the underdogs.

“In the past couple of seasons, we’ve gone in with very high
expectations and I’m not saying we don’t have expectations this time. But it is slightly different.

“That’s because we’ve drawn such a big side but we believe in ourselves that we are capable of getting the right result.

“It’s now about producing not just on Thursday but over the two legs.

“We know the fans have a part to play as well by being our extra man at Tannadice and hopefully they will create a special atmosphere.”
