Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are the fourth and fifth highest paid players in Major League Soccer, new figures have revealed.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard will earn $6,132,500 in total earnings while Lampard, who has yet to play a match for New York City FC this season and has been dubbed the worst signing in MLS history, has a $6 million salary.

Kaka, the former AC Milan, Real Madrid and Brazil playmaker, tops the list on $7,167,500 - a league record - just ahead of Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco, the league's reigning MVP, who is just behind on $7,115,556.

The huge disparity that remains in MLS wages - mainly due to league restrictions on spending - can be seen in those at the lower end of the scale.

Ashley Cole earns just $300,000 a year at LA Galaxy while New York Red Bulls' Shaun Wright-Phillips makes a mere $100,000.
