Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has returned to Roma on a season-long loan.

The Poland international spent last season with the Italian side, playing 34 league games and eight Champions League matches to help them secure a third-place finish in Serie A.

Szczesny joined the Gunners from Legia Warsaw when he was 18 and has gone on to play 181 times for Arsene Wenger's side since making his debut against West Brom in 2009.

The 26-year-old represented Poland at Euro 2016 and kept a clean sheet in their opening group game - a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland - before a thigh injury ended his tournament early.

"I'm very happy," Szczesny told Roma TV. "After a good season last year I had the possibility of coming back and I was very happy that the coach wanted me.

"I'm delighted to be back and I hope that we can improve on what we did last season."

Petr Cech will again be Arsenal's first choice goalkeeper for the new season, with David Ospina acting as cover.
