Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko will miss Wednesday night's Sky Bet Championship clash at home to Reading through injury, with his future still uncertain.
The £35m-rated France international, who has been linked with Inter Milan and Everton in recent days, suffered a knock to his ankle in training and will not be included in the squad after being left out of Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Huddersfield.
New signing Mohamed Diame will also sit out with an ankle problem picked up against the Terriers.
Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic serves the third leg of his four-match suspension, while keepers Tim Krul and Rob Elliot continue to work their way back from long-term knee injuries.
Reading boss Jaap Stam could make changes after a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Wolves.
Joseph Mendes and Stephen Quinn have started training following injuries but the game could come too soon for them.
Jordan Obita, Paul McShane and Garath McCleary shook off knocks to feature at Molineux and should be available again.
Jake Cooper and Deniss Rakels are pushing for starts after coming off the bench at the weekend.
