Juan Cuadrado's first-half thunderbolt fired Juventus to a 1-0 Derby d'Italia victory over Inter Milan in Turin on Sunday night.

The on-loan Chelsea winger, under the watchful eye of his visiting Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte, rifled home an unstoppable volley as the clock struck 45 minutes at the Juventus Stadium.

A much-improved Inter team looked good for a goal at times but neither Joao Mario nor Ivan Perisic - later dismissed for arguing with referee Nicola Rizzoli - could deny Juve their 28th consecutive Serie A home win.

The Bianconeri must play a game-in-hand at 18th-placed Crotone in midweek, and triumph in Calabria would see them pull nine points clear in the title race.

In the early kick-off, AC Milan lost a third straight league game as mid-table Sampdoria claimed a 1-0 victory at San Siro.

Luis Muriel's 70th-minute penalty was enough for Samp, and home boss Vincenzo Montella faced further frustration as Jose Sosa was sent off at the death.

Marco Parolo strengthened Lazio's bid for Champions League football with four goals in a 6-2 rout of basement boys Pescara at the Stadio Adriatico.

The Italy midfielder made it 2-0 inside 14 minutes with two headers, but Pescara were level at the break thanks to Ahmed Benali and Gaston Brugman, with Gianluca Caprari missing the chance to turn the tables when his penalty was saved on 36 minutes.

Parolo nodded home for a hat-trick of headers when play resumed, with Lazio pushing on for a big win as Keita Balde Diao and Ciro Immobile joined the party.

With 13 minutes left, Parolo added his fourth goal, exceeding in a single match his three-goal haul in 2015-16.

Pescara's fellow strugglers Palermo and Crotone went head-to-head in Sicily with the hosts managing to secure their first home win of the season courtesy of Ilija Nestorovski's 27th-minute goal. Lorenzo Crisetig saw red for Crotone - now a point behind Palermo, who are eight shy of safety - in the second half.

Alejandro Gomez bagged a brace as Atalanta kept up their challenge for Europe with a 2-0 home win over Cagliari and Sassuolo's improvement continued as Lorenzo Pellegrini's volleyed goal clinched a 1-0 victory at free-falling Genoa, who have lost six of their last nine to slump to 16th.

Andrea Belotti reached 15 goals for the season with Torino's opener at Empoli, where Manuel Pucciarelli equalised to make it 1-1. Iago Falque could have won it for Toro, but he missed a second-half penalty.

Elsewhere, Chievo and Udinese played out a goalless draw in Verona that saw home defender Bostjan Cesar dismissed in the final 10 minutes.
