Sky Sports Vault | Man City 2-3 Liverpool

We take a look back to October 2008 where title chasing Liverpool visited big money Manchester City and took three valuable points after a dramatic comeback.

In the early stages of a title chase that eventually saw them fall a few points short of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, Liverpool fell two goals down in the first half to strikes from Stephen Ireland and Javier Garrido.

But Fernando Torres kick-started the comeback in the second half, netting after 55 and 73 minutes, while Pablo Zabaleta was dismissed in between to leave City with 10 men, and Dirk Kuyt popped up to score the winner in injury time.

Rafa Benitez, who was Liverpool's manager at the time, compared the comeback to their famous Champions League final triumph in 2005.

"We have some experience after Istanbul (when we beat AC Milan after being 3-0 down) and other games," he said. "The main thing for me was the belief of the players until the end.

"In the second half we were on top. We changed the mentality and approach. We knew we were giving them too much space so we tried to press them. Kuyt is one of our key players. His work-rate is amazing and I think that is why the supporters love him."
