Alexis Sanchez took part in Chile training on Tuesday despite the ankle injury that forced him off at West Brom on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger replaced Sanchez during the second half of Arsenal's 3-1 defeat and afterwards said a James McClean foul had left the forward's ankle "in a terrible state".

The Gunners boss added: "If it's only a kick then he will play, but his ankle is swollen. If the ligament is damaged, he will not play."

But there was no visible sign of the problem as Sanchez joined his international team-mates in Santiago ahead of the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Argentina and Venezuela.

Wenger in November urged Chile not to make "a suicidal decision" on the fitness of Sanchez, who played in a World Cup Qualifier despite suffering a hamstring injury in the run-up to the game.

On that occasion he returned to Arsenal fit enough to play in their next game, a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

Sanchez's club future remains uncertain as he approaches the final year of his deal with no indication he is close to signing an extension.
