Cristiano Ronaldo has hailed Real Madrid's performance as "outstanding" after Tuesday's Champions League 3-0 semi-final, first-leg victory against Atletico Madrid.

The Portugal international once again stole the headlines as he hit his seventh hat-trick in the competition to help Real take a commanding three-goal lead in the tie.

His treble takes him level with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi for the same feat and saw him score three goals in back-to-back Champions League games after also doing the same against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals a few weeks ago.

Tuesday's result leaves Real in a strong position for the second leg at the Vicente Calderon Stadium next Wednesday, with Ronaldo full of praise for his team, but he has warned them that the tie is not over yet.

"The team did a tremendous job, we were outstanding," he told the club's official website.

"It was a complete performance and we performed very well right from the first whistle to the last. I'm very happy to have struck a hat-trick and made it 400 goals for Real Madrid.

"We've now got a good lead, but there's still the return leg to come and the tie isn't over yet. Atletico are a very fine, strong side and it's not by chance that they're in the semi-finals. We'll have to be focused for next Wednesday's game."
