Newcastle officials will soon meet with fan groups who want road closures around St James' Park on matchdays, Sky sources understand.

The meeting, which will include members from the local council and emergency services, comes in response to concerns over possible terror attacks on football crowds.

All parties are attempting to sort a time and date for a meeting as soon as possible, Sky Sports News HQ understands.

Recent terror attacks in London and across Europe have seen vehicles deliberately driven into pedestrians, and some Newcastle fans want to see the two roads that border the stadium - Strawberry Place near the main entrance, and Barrack Road - pedestrianised on match days.

However, Sky Sports News HQ understands closing Barrack Road is deemed highly unlikely to be accepted by the council, as it is a main transport artery for the city.

And there is also the issue of Newcastle being reluctant to set a precedent that may cause problems for the other 91 football clubs in England.
