Riyad Mahrez: Roma still want Leicester City winger but looking at other options

Roma still want to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, but are also "working on other solutions".
Sporting director Monchi says the Serie A club have made an improved offer - of more than 30m euros (£27.1m) - for the 26-year-old Algerian.
Mahrez, who helped Leicester win the Premier League title in 2015-16, has asked to leave.
"At the moment, the club is very close to the limit and I believe our offer is very significant," said Monchi.
Speaking to his club's website, he added: "If my memory does not deceive me, the last offer we made would make it the most expensive purchase in the history of the club.
"We are not making any effort to sign the player, but at the moment we are still waiting on a positive result. At the same time, we are working on other solutions.
"He has said publicly [that he wants to leave] but I think he also respects his club, and rightly so."

I too am an avid Leicester fan, of 50 years. Mahrez played a major part in my beloved team achieving something that I never thought I would never see.
For that alone, him and the rest of the team will have my eternal gratitude.
From afar, despite asking to leave, he seems to be conducting himself in a professional manner.
Unfortunately, his value has probably halved after the fairly average season he has just had.
Saying that, Leicester don't have to sell him - so it's fair enough if they want to slap the large price tag.
We can all agree that he's a talented player!
If Leicester lose Mahrez they will be relegated. He is the only player of real quality in the team. "
A broadbrush statement with no backing: a team doesn't win a Premier League title with only one player of quality.
Vardy, Schmeical, Iborra, Maguire, Ndidi, Fuchs, Okazaki, Drinkwater are all players of "real quality" to name but a few.

Has to be worth the £40m or so we were talking about paying for Barkley in the current market. Would be a great bit of business along with getting a full back, centre back and striker to strengthen the squad!
I note Man Utd got a footballing lesson by Real Madrid and there's no HYS at all. Considering that the BBC regularly daubs its front page with all things UTD it merely adds to the accusations of bias when things don't go the BBCManUtd fanzine's way.
Well where would you prefer to live? Rome, Milan... or Leicester
meanwhile, its been noted that there's no HYS today on Man U being outclassed by Madrid last night, odd that...as there has been a constant HYS on utd every day all summer
Very original. No, not at all, why would I be bitter and twisted about still having twice as many top flight titles than lcfc. Well done on yours though. Tis you that seems bitter over a negative, but honest appraisal of mahrez. He's hardly the first to look world class for a season then fade away.
It wouldnt surprise me at all if Liverpool sell Coutinio for 120 million plus and go for Marez for 40 million and van dike and throw in another 25 million for the ox off arsenal. Would make financial sense.
But if Palace is only worth 200 million how can one player bought a half a million be worth a quarter of that
