The first international break is upon us, with still plenty of work to do for England to secure a spot at the World Cup in Russia next summer.

England have certainly made an impressive start, and lead the way in Group F with 14 points from their six games so far.

Malta represent comfortable opposition in the first qualifier of the new season in the Ta'Qali National Stadium, but the European minnows did cause a shock by beating Ukraine back in June. England must be wary.

Gareth Southgate has named his latest squad with some fresh faces included. Leicester defender Harry Maguire is one of three uncapped players named, with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Watford's Nathaniel Chalobah also handed their chance to impress.

Joe Hart has retained his place in the squad, while there is also a call-up for his West Ham club-mate Aaron Cresswell, who has only made two international appearances.

But who is deserving of a starting berth? How do England begin life without Wayne Rooney?
