Sunderland and Hibernian will pay tribute to former midfielder Liam Miller before their games this weekend.

The 36-year-old Irishman died last week following a battle with pancreatic cancer and two of his former clubs will hold a minute's applause before their games against Brentford and Aberdeen, respectively.

Miller played 60 times for Sunderland and represented Hibs on 72 occasions during his career.

"At this sad time we would like to pay our respects and show our appreciation together - club and fans - along with our visitors from Brentford," Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain told the club's official website.

"It is a tragedy to lose someone so young and our deepest condolences go to Liam's family and friends."

Hibernian will also pause to remember Miller before their Scottish Premiership game with the Dons on Saturday.

"The applause will be a moment of celebration for a person who provided many happy memories for Hibernian supporters, including goals against Hearts and Rangers," read a statement on Hibernian's official website.
