Will Grigg says the trouble that marred the end of Wigan's FA Cup victory over Manchester City was disappointing but doesn't want it to detract from their performance

Wigan's FA Cup match-winner Will Grigg says he is "disappointed" with the crowd trouble that marred the end of their famous win over Manchester City.

The Sky Bet League One club has launched an investigation into the pitch invasion which followed their 1-0 win over the Premier League leaders.

City striker Sergio Aguero clashed with home supporters who ran on to the pitch to celebrate Wigan's victory, while objects - including an advertising board - were thrown at police and stewards from the stands.

Grigg, who scored the goal with 11 minutes to go, told Sky Sports News: "It is disappointing just in terms of we don't want to take the limelight away from the players, from the club, and from everyone involved because it was a really special night.

"It is disappointing but we will try to concentrate on the game and what a massive night it was for us.

"It was one of those nights that goes down in history for the club. Obviously for myself to get the goal, and to finish on such a high, was an unbelievable feeling."

Grigg's winner came after he beat England international Kyle Walker to the ball and then outpaced him.

"To be honest, I was petrified," Grigg joked. " When you are having a footrace with Kyle Walker, it's not something you want to be honest but I got to the ball first and I think I took a great first touch to take it in front of him, which is not exactly what he wanted.

"It was a great feeling to see it go into the bottom corner. I think it [the first touch] was just instinct, to be honest. I sort of recognised where I was on the pitch and I had to take him out of the game somehow.

"I knew if I carried on going straight, he would probably catch up with me so it was just a case of creating that angle for me to get the shot off and fortunately I did that perfectly."

Wigan now face a home quarter-final against another Premier League side - Southampton - and Grigg can't wait for the next challenge.

"Southampton will be a different type of game. It's another massive game, it's a big test for us. We will be massive underdogs again and we'll have a little bit of expectation on us now.

"It's a no lose game, we will do everything we can, we will prepare properly for it and hopefully we can make it another special evening."
