Bayern Munich 5-1 Borussia Monchengladbach

Sandro Wagner
Sandro Wagner scored twice but was replaced by Robert Lewandowski before he could score a hat-trick

Bayern Munich came from behind to thrash Borussia Monchengladbach in their first Bundesliga game since wrapping up a sixth consecutive title.

Jupp Heynckes, who will be replaced by Niko Kovac at the end of the season, rested several first-team players and saw Josip Drmic put Gladbach ahead.

But Sandro Wagner scored twice from Thomas Muller crosses to put Bayern 2-1 up before Thiago netted from close in.

David Alaba smashed home from 20 yards and Robert Lewandowski added a fifth.

Treble-chasing Bayern face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final on Tuesday - and Real Madrid in the Champions League last four the following week.

Eintracht Frankfurt, in their first match since it was announced boss Kovac will go to Bayern this summer, lost 4-1 to Champions League rivals Bayer Leverkusen as Kevin Volland scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick.

Hamburg, the only team to play in every season of the Bundesliga since it began in 1963, moved a step closer to relegation as they lost 2-0 to fifth-placed Hoffenheim.

They are now five points below Mainz, who are in the relegation play-off spot, having played a game more.

Bottom-placed Cologne are also close to going down after Davie Selke's double handed Hertha Berlin a 2-1 win.

Niclas Fullkrug's injury-time goal rescued a point for Hannover at Stuttgart in the day's other game.
