Eddie Howe bemoaned a rejected penalty claim in Bournemouth's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United

Eddie Howe bemoaned a rejected penalty claim in Bournemouth's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Trailing to Chris Smalling's opener, Luke Shaw tangled with Callum Wilson midway through the second half just as he prepared to convert Josh King's cross.

Referee Graham Scott deemed the challenge legal and Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to secure the United victory.

Howe was left to draw positives from an improved performance despite compounding their 3-0 loss at Liverpool.

"Callum's got goal side and the chance to tap the ball into an empty net," the Cherries boss said. "He's thrown off balance and for me, it's a penalty.
