Danny Mills tells Premier League Daily that Liverpool's defenders should have a 'serious look at themselves' despite helping the Reds reach the Champions League Final.

Danny Mills has questioned the quality of Liverpool's defending in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final victory against Roma.

Jurgen Klopp's team went into the game 5-2 up from the first match at Anfield but lost 4-2 on the night to reach the final against Real Madrid 7-6 on aggregate.

Speaking on Premier League Daily, the former England right-back said the defending left much to be desired.

"If you throw away a three-goal lead, wherever that is, you've got to have a serious look at yourselves," he said.

When it was pointed out that Barcelona also threw away a three-goal lead against Roma in the quarter-finals, Mills replied: "Exactly, and questions were being asked about that. How did that happen with all their great talent?

"Barcelona didn't play their usual pressing game when they faced Roma.

"Liverpool went out and played their normal game. People asked if they would just turn up and defend. No, they're not good enough to do that.

"They're an attacking team that play on the front foot and they've got to go out and score more goals than the opposition and this time they scraped through 7-6.

"It wasn't as bad as the scoreline looked in the end. They had a bit more wriggle room, a bit more comfort than it actually looked like."

Mohamed Salah was not on the scoresheet but Sadio Mane got Liverpool's opener and there was another impressive display from Roberto Firmino prompting Mills to say that Liverpool's front three are "almost impossible" to play against.

"In Salah and Mane, they have got incredible pace which is always very difficult to defend against," Mills said.

"They've got a player in Firmono that is happy to play in the 'false nine' if you like at times, drop into those little holes, hit passes and contribute lots of assists.

"They are almost impossible to defend against.

"Salah is the one of the three who can create something out of nothing. He can pick it up on the halfway line, he can through three or four players and then score all by himself."
