Shrewsbury v Charlton preview: Paul Hurst predicts 'intense' second leg

    Shrewsbury Town v Charlton Athletic

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst insists there is no chance his side will sit back and defend their 1-0 play-off lead over Charlton on Sunday in what he expects to be an “intense” second leg.

The Shrews hold the upper hand heading into this weekend's Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final second leg after Jon Nolan's 80th-minute strike earned them a victory at The Valley on Thursday.

A goalless draw would therefore be enough to ensure Shrewsbury's trip to Wembley for the play-off final on May 27 but Hurst wants his side to produce attacking football.

"We attack. We'll try anyway. Charlton will have a big say in that and will be trying to do their own attacking. There's no way I'm going to set up defensively. We won't sit back come tomorrow."

Hurst is again set to be without injured captain Abu Ogogo and Junior Brown.

Bowyer says he will definitely makes changes to his starting line-up but admits it is touch-and-go whether Tariqe Fosu will be able to feature.

The winger had expected to miss both semi-final matches with a hamstring injury but recovered in time to play the final half-hour on Thursday.

Jon Nolan's stunning strike gave Shrewsbury a first leg advantage in their League One playoff semi-final against Charlton.

    Prutton's prediction

Shrewsbury put in an incredibly resilient display in the first leg at The Valley on Thursday night. You wondered what their mentality would be like in the play-offs after spending so long competing for automatic promotion but they're very much in the driving seat now in this tie.

Lee Bowyer was extremely confident that his Charlton side would turn it around and do enough to get to Wembley, but it's going to be an extremely tough assignment for them at New Meadow. The Shrews nicked the first game and I fancy them to do the same in the second.

David Prutton predicts: Shrewsbury to win 1-0 and progress 2-0 on aggregate (5/1 with Sky Bet)
