Martin Allen will be named the next Chesterfield manager following their relegation to the National League, according to Sky sources.

Allen turned down the chance to continue as manager at Barnet, who were also relegated back to non-league football along with the Spireites.

The 52-year-old former QPR and West Ham player promoted Barnet back to the EFL as manager in 2015 and kept them up the following season in his fourth spell in charge at the North London club.

He left the following season to join Eastleigh, which proved to be a short-lived spell, before returning to Barnet earlier this year following the departure of Graham Westley.

Allen previously won League Two with Gillingham in 2013 and has had spells in charge of Brentford, MK Dons, Leicester, Cheltenham and Notts County.

He is expected to be announced by the Spireites on Tuesday to replace Jack Lester, who was dismissed following the club's first relegation into non-league football since re-joining in 1921.
