IT’S not often a TV sporting commentator will break down and cry in front of a camera.

Yet Fox Sports caller Brenton Speed could not control his sobbing in this online video tribute from the world’s best soccer commentator, Martin Tyler.

Tyler knows more about great goals and great TV commentary than most.

So when the voice of the English Premier League and World Cup was asked about Speed’s magnificent call of the sensational Riley McGree scorpion kick in last season’s A-League finals, he didn’t hold back.

As part of an FFA marketing campaign for next season’s A League, the video of the goal and Tyler’s comments will be used to promote the competition and the Fox Sports coverage.

There is footage off Speed sobbing from the emotion of Tyler’s stunning critique of his broadcast.

“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness” as McGree miraculously puts the ball into the back of the net.

“This is special,” Tyler says, “Brenton really captured it. It’s going to be shown forever.

“A commentator’s nightmare is to have something happen that you don’t match up to.

“He certainly matched up to it. He can be very proud if that. You never know, history is made before your eyes and when it comes along you have to be ready for it.

“I hope both the goal and the broadcast enhances the perception of the A League around the world because both were top draw.”

Tyler has been Speed’s hero in TV broadcasting since he started.

Speed is renowned as Australia’s most versatile commentator, calling NRL, AFL and A-League for Fox Sports.

“It was pretty cool getting a wrap from Martin,” Speed said, “It’s awesome that he’s even seen it.

“He’s the doyen and it’s something I’ll remember forever.”
