Rangers supporters watched their side cruise to a 7-1 Premiership win over Motherwell on Sunday to close the gap on Celtic and Hearts two points.

The dominant win was just the tonic after the pain of Thursday's capitulation against Spartak Moscow in the Europa League.

The Light Blues tuned into Sunday's Sportscene to watch the highlights but were left unimpressed with Michael Stewart's view on one of the biggest decisions in the match.

Carl McHugh stopped Rangers star Andy Halliday's fizzer with a raised hand - but the TV pundit reckons it was NOT a penalty.

Tavernier scores from the spot to make it 2-1

Stewart believes the spot-kick shouldn't have been awarded and stressed his point on the BBC show.

He said: "It had a big part to play in the match.

"Alfredo Morelos makes a meal (of the first booking). That was not a yellow card, Carl McHugh came into the challenge with very little contact.

"I don't think it's a penalty. In the rules, the position of someone's arms is irrelevant. It's not an offence in itself for your arms to be raised.

"First and foremost, the referee has got to think it's a deliberate act and it's not for me. It's not a second yellow card.

"It's not a penalty kick, it's not deliberate."

James Tavernier converted to make it 2-1 before Steven Gerrard's romped to a emphatic victory.

Even Well boss Stephen Robinson had zero complaints with the decision to show McHugh a second yellow - despite being peeved with his midfielder's first booking for a tackle on Alfredo Morelos.

The Northern Irishman reckoned the Ibrox forward "conned" referee Craig Thomson as the whistler booked the former Motherwell skipper.
